Who are you?

You are YOU.  God made you, YOU.  And YOU are exactly who he wants you to be.  Don’t be somebody’s clone.  That person you’re trying to be may very well be trying to be you!  ~ Lucy Swindoll

This is tricky – well at least for me.  Being the 8th in a brood of 9 children, I feel that I am a secret recipe.  😉  I am a mixture of tiny tidbits of my other family members’ personalities.  It’s a good thing, in my opinion.  Growing up, I have learned to stay away from their “not so good” ways and to embrace the good ones.  I love watching and learning from them.            Read the rest of this entry »

The Daffodil Principle

This never fails to inspire me…

Several times my daughter had telephoned to say, “Mother, you must come to see the daffodils before they are over.” I wanted to go, but it was a two-hour drive from Laguna to Lake Arrowhead “I will come next Tuesday”, I promised a little reluctantly on her third call.Next Tuesday dawned cold and rainy. Still, I had promised, and reluctantly I drove there. When I finally walked into Carolyn’s house I was welcomed by the joyful sounds of happy children. I delightedly hugged and greeted my grandchildren.“Forget the daffodils, Carolyn! The road is invisible in these clouds and fog, and there is nothing in the world except you and these children that I want to see badly enough to drive another inch!”My daughter smiled calmly and said, “We drive in this all the time, Mother.” “Well, you won’t get me back on the road until it clears, and then I’m heading for home!” I assured her.      Read the rest of this entry »

How to Herd Cats… When You’re a Mouse

Bringing about change in an entire organization is a bit like trying to herd cats… when you’re a mouse.

Not only is it just plain difficult to get everyone moving in the same direction… but at any moment, someone could turn around and bite your head off!

(Or if they’re like my old cat, give you a few swipes and then “play” with you a bit… cruel, I know…)

So how do you do it?    Read the rest of this entry »

Faith vs Fear

A very dear friend of mine gave me a copy of this poem.

Faith vs. Fear

By Sean Key, National Director of Sales Development, Mary Kay Cosmetics
A faithful person believes that the best is yet to come.

A fearful person believes the best has already come and gone.

A faithful person seeks opportunity.

A fearful person seeks security.

A faithful person wants to be pushed.

A fearful person wants to be protected

A faithful person thinks all things are possible.

A fearful person thinks that very little is possible.

A faithful person accepts the help of others.

A fearful person is afraid to let others in.

A faithful person has achieved the victory in her head and heart before she tries.

A fearful person makes up her mind that it won’t work and never tries.

A faithful person recovers quickly from a crisis.

A fearful person finds ways to exist in a crisis.

A faithful person recounts her victories.

A fearful person recounts her failures.

A faithful person believes that she can’t win if she doesn’t try.

A fearful person believes that she can’t fail if she doesn’t try.

A faithful person relies on God.

A fearful person relies on herself.

I find myself on the “Fear” side many times.  This poem helped me identify my weaknesses.  I am working on making a 180 degree turn to the “Faith” side.

Simple Pleasures

I adore simple pleasures. They are the last refuge of the complex. Oscar Wilde, The Picture of Dorian Gray, 1891, Irish dramatist, novelist, & poet (1854 – 1900)>

In the past few years, we have been bombarded with too much complexities – Computers, Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii, PSP2 and Nintendo DS, Gameboy, Dancing Barbie Dolls, MP3 Players, Cellular phones, Palm Pilots and whatever have you.  Sometimes, I think, we have become slaves of all these gadgets that we freeze just at the thought of not having them with us at any given time.  I have seen people with 3,4 even 5 gadget belt-carriers.  People are constantly text-ing, sending emails, or young kids playing video games.  Whatever happened to the simple things in life?      Read the rest of this entry »

My body, God’s home

Today’s Truth: 1 Corinthians 6:9 19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body. (NIV)

How do we honor God with our bodies?  I have three words for you… DIET, EXERCISE and REST.  A healthy body not only allows us to serve Him through serving others, it also enables us to keep a sound mind and heart.  Being healthy in mind and body makes us more effective in everything that we do.            Read the rest of this entry »
